“Don’t waste this.”
Those are the words I heard this morning. Words of comfort, encouragement, and a challenge. And I want to pass them on to you in the form of… rust. Yes, rust. Stick with me for a minute.
God has been speaking to my wife and I very specifically about trust lately. It comes at both expected and unexpected times. And just when we think we have it nailed, we get exposed. We can go from such confidence to such concern, sometimes in the course of a day. Anyone else?
While praying and journaling about that this morning, here’s what God gave me. I think it’s a comfort for anyone that is in a place of needing to trust him:
You have no idea how I will come through. And that’s a beautiful place to be. it’s a place of absolute surrender. A place of peace; yes, peace. Don’t waste this time. There is something I’m doing in and through you with this.
“A beautiful place to be” and “don’t waste this time.”
How many of us are so eager to get through the tough times that we miss how God may be using them, both for our good and his glory? I know I am. How many of us can get so focused on what’s difficult that we lose sight of what is beautiful? I know I can. How many of us look only at what isn’t happening that we lose sight of what is? I do.
Friend, what is God teaching you through whatever your “this” is? How is he refining you? How is he redefining you? How is it actually beautiful?
Here’s one thing he’s teaching me about trust, and it’s where the rust comes in. It came in the form of an analogy, and I think it’s pretty neat.
