4 steps to find freedom from anything.
These steps to break free from things like addiction, fear, and people-pleasing are both simple and hard. But they work. Here's why.
I’m not going to lie: I know I’m making a bold claim in this post. “Four steps to find freedom from anything” is a big promise. But you need to know this: I’ve both tested and implemented these four steps in my own life to radical results.
Seriously, my life has changed. Drastically.
That became clear to me about six months ago when my wife and I had dinner with some friends. We were sitting at our dining room table and I was explaining the process I was going through and, unprompted, she piped up, “He’s a different person. Sometimes I don’t recognize him.”
I literally did one of those wide-eyed eyebrow raises you see in the movies. Did she really just say that? I wasn’t offended, I was surprised. I knew I had been making strides, and I knew I both felt different and was acting differently, but I didn’t realize it had become so obvious to others — especially to the person closest to me.
It had.
See, about nine months ago I was made clearly aware of a shortcoming in my life. A shortcoming I was powerless to change on my own. A shortcoming that had affected my family in ways I didn't realize. A shortcoming that required me to truly understand God’s grace and pursue him.
And as I sought him and his grace, I started taking these steps. And as I took these steps, I found freedom.
As I sought God and his grace, I started taking these steps. And as I took these steps, I found freedom.
I’m getting ready to talk about what that “shortcoming” was (or is) in great detail. But it’s not quite time. There are a few things that need to happen first, a few more conversations that need to take place. And honestly, a lot more writing behind the scenes. Trust me, you’ll probably get sick of me talking about it once I start. But just not yet.
Still, I don’t want what that to keep me from helping you right now. I want to give you an outline of what I’ve learned and implemented so you can experience freedom like I have.
So what kind of things can these steps help you break free from? I’ll name a few:
Porn
Anger
Alcohol
Anxiety
Drugs
Narcissism
Pride
Fear
People-pleasing
Trauma
Really? Really. Don’t believe me? Read on and you’ll see how.
One thing first: These steps assume you are either a Christian, conversant in Christianity, or at least curious about Christianity. Why? Because they require faith. They require trust in Jesus. Maybe you won’t enter Step 1 with that faith in place, but you’ll have to exit with it. That will make sense in a minute.
So without further ado, here are “The Four Steps to Find Freedom from Anything.”
