Are you praying for the wrong thing?
We pray a lot for God to change our circumstances or guarantee an outcome. But what if we need to be praying for something else?
I’ll be honest with you: I’ve been afraid lately. And today, I realized that fear was driving me to pray for the wrong thing.
Recently, my fear has focused on knowing my next book is supposed to be about a risky topic. And while God has been encouraging me regarding that lately, it hasn’t magically erased the fear.
I think that’s an important reminder, by the way. Overcoming anything is a process. At least in my experience. For example, while my clinical anxiety and OCD is better than it once was, it’s still something that’s getting better.
Back to fear.
On Saturday, while on the plane returning from the Mayo Clinic to diagnose my wife’s health issues, I was once again wrestling with fear. The fear in this case was related to this new writing venture and I caught myself asking a bunch of questions:
God, am I actually doing what you want me to do?
God, am I taking the right steps?
God, is this really worth it?
God, am I taking on this new phase of writing for the right reasons?
