I don’t think there’s ever been a New Year’s where I’ve felt like I’ve been limping along as much as this one.
In the past there’s always been at least a muted excitement for what’s to come. But this year? It was all about just getting across the finish line. That’s not to say there is zero excitement or anticipation. But more so than ever before, I’ve felt like runner in a race who is cramped up and the goal is just to get across the line—by any means necessary—and then start recovering. To turn the page, if that’s a better metaphor for you.

One of the daily devotionals I like to use is New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp. (That list of devotionals, by the way, has grown this year to include at least three daily ones.
