I’m a year into recovery for alcohol addiction. Technically. See, I actually have two sobriety dates. I’m not sure if that’s “allowed,” but it’s what I do. If you don’t like it, I guess you can report me to the sobriety police. But let me explain why first.
July 8, 2023, was my last drink. It’s the last time I binged on bourbon. The last time I used alcohol to try and escape what was going on inside and around me. Hence, that’s why I wrote the article on July 9 of this year, “11 things I’ve learned in one year of being sober.”
July 9 will always be my “last drink” date. But there’s another date I consider equally as important. Another date that I celebrate. Another date I’m likely to get tattooed on my arm. Another date that means a lot to me.
That date is this:
