“That’s bush league!” I screamed across the field.
I was upset.
Yesterday, my daughter’s softball team made it into the championship game for their weekend tournament. It was their fifth game in two days, and their third in a row. We were coming up on being at the park for seven hours straight. And we were so proud of the girls. They had played their best softball of the young tournament season.
But there was a problem.
Without getting too granular, here’s how the games work: there’s a time limit of 75 minutes. When the time is up, the game is over. Unless a new inning has started, then you get to complete the inning.
We were the visiting team. The home team had just gone up by a few runs in the bottom of the inning. And now there were four minutes left in the game. Why is that important? Because the other team, once they gained the lead, didn’t want to start the next inning. They wanted the game to end right there. I get it.
