Burn. The. Ships.
Those are the three words that have been hovering over my head since yesterday afternoon. “Jon, burn the ships.” I need to burn the ships. You may need to burn the ships, too. It’s time to go all in.
Maybe you’ve heard the term before. I looked it up since it was haunting me. It comes from the 1500s, when the Spanish general Cortes was trying to conquer Mexico. He wanted his men to fight with more than just passion — he wanted them to fight with everything they had, for their lives. So when they landed, he ordered them to burn the ships they sailed in on. They were either going to conquer the land or be killed. There was no option to retreat. There was no going back. They had to trust him to lead them to victory and they had to fight like hell.
