This ain't no cutesy way to look at Thanksgiving. But it is so much better.
Over the last five years, I’ve probably spent at least 24 hours searching for the video. At this point, I’ll just take the transcript. Or even a reference.
But no matter how hard I try, I can’t find it.1
That’s especially hard to stomach given the impact that what I’ve been looking for has had on me and even those around me. In fact, it was so life-changing one of our best friends memorialized it in a tattoo.
The “it” is a phrase from a sermon I once heard. And the story behind the phrase is what makes it even more powerful. It’s especially relevant today: Thanksgiving. If you’ll give me a few minutes, I need to tell you the phrase. And I think you’ll appreciate it.
Here’s how I remember it happening.
It was around 2015 (maybe earlier, but not much later) and my wife and I were attending The Village Church in Texas, pastored by Matt Chandler. During this particular sermon, Chandler concluded by talking about a family in the church who was experiencing some hardship.
